Geethu Mohandas, whose journey traversed from being a child actress to a leading lady in numerous films, took a notable leap into the directorial realm following a hiatus from the spotlight since her last acting venture in 2009’s “Nammal Thammil,” co-starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Indrajith Sukumaran.
Embarking on her directorial path, Mohandas established her film production house, Unplugged, presenting her maiden directorial short film titled “Kelkkunnundo.” Her directorial debut in feature films commenced with the Hindi film “Liar’s Dice” (2014), a road movie featuring Geetanjali Thapa and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in pivotal roles. The poignant narrative delved into the repercussions of migration to urban centers and the exploitation of migrant laborers, earning critical acclaim and two National Awards.
Mohandas continued her directorial prowess with the Malayalam-language action-thriller “Moothon,” headlined by Nivin Pauly. The film, featuring a stellar ensemble cast, garnered accolades, premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2019 and becoming a pivotal contribution to the New Wave Movement in Malayalam cinema.
The exceptional cinematic creation, “Moothon,” transcended linguistic boundaries by presenting dialogues in a bilingual Jeseri dialect of Malayalam and Hindi. Notably, the Hindi lines were penned by Anurag Kashyap, who also co-produced the film, elevating its artistic and cultural significance.
Amidst this amalgamation of cinematic brilliance, the collaboration between Yash and Geethu Mohandas in “Toxic” sets the stage for an exhilarating narrative, poised to captivate audiences with its storytelling prowess and cinematic finesse.
