Telugu film trade bodies including the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, Telugu Film Producers Council, Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce, and Movie Artistes Association came together in solidarity following the tragic rape and murder of a Kolkata doctor. They organized a candlelight walk, starting from the film chamber in Jubilee Hills and spanning over 1 km.

Prasanna Kumar, the general secretary of Telugu Film Producers Council, expressed condemnation of the heinous crime and described the walk as a successful demonstration of the Telugu film industry’s support for the victims and their families. “Over 300 members participated in the event, showcasing our solidarity,” he remarked.

Prominent female figures such as Jeevitha Rajasekhar, art director Supriya, writer Anuradha Umerjee, and Karate Kalyani also joined the walk. Reflecting on the event, Jeevitha Rajasekhar emphasized the industry’s overall respect and support for women, albeit acknowledging the presence of a few disruptive elements. “We work freely in this male-dominated industry thanks to the strong support system,” she stated.

Jeevitha stressed the importance of proactive measures for women’s safety, urging them to stay connected with friends while traveling and to share their whereabouts for added security. She also called upon men to take responsibility within their social circles, identifying and addressing individuals with harmful tendencies towards women.

“It’s crucial for every member of society to play a role in protecting women and preventing such incidents,” Jeevitha concluded, highlighting the collective responsibility to create a safer environment for all.
