Sanjay Dutt, the prominent Bollywood star, has faced numerous controversies throughout his life, including drug addiction and a conviction for illegal possession of firearms. His personal life has also been under scrutiny, particularly his strained relationship with his sisters due to his marriage to Manyata Dutt against their wishes. While Manyata Dutt is often seen accompanying her husband in public, little is known about Sanjay Dutt’s first wife, Richa Sharma, an aspiring actress whose life was tragically cut short at the age of 32.

Born in New York, Richa Sharma nurtured her dream of becoming an actress since her childhood. She reportedly approached the legendary Bollywood actor Dev Anand to cast her as the female lead in one of his films. However, Dev Anand believed she was too young for the role but assured her of a future opportunity when she grew older.

Dev Anand kept his promise and offered Richa Sharma a role in his 1985 film, “Hum Naujawan.” She subsequently appeared in other movies such as “Insaaf ki Awaaz,” “Sadak Chaap,” and “Aag Hi Aag.” It is said that Sanjay Dutt saw a photograph of Richa in a film magazine and was captivated by her beauty. He proposed to her during the shooting of “Aag Hi Aag,” and she readily accepted. However, convincing Richa’s parents proved to be a challenge since Sanjay Dutt had recently completed rehabilitation for drug addiction. Despite their initial reservations, Richa’s parents eventually gave their consent.

Sanjay Dutt and Richa Sharma tied the knot, and she decided to quit acting thereafter. Unfortunately, their happiness was short-lived as Richa was diagnosed with a brain tumor within two years of their marriage. On December 10, 1996, Richa Sharma passed away at her parent’s residence in New York. The couple had a daughter together named Trishala Dutt, who was raised by her maternal grandparents and continues to live with them in New York.

The tragic tale of Sanjay Dutt’s first wife, Richa Sharma, highlights the untold struggles and personal tragedies that have shaped the actor’s life. While Sanjay Dutt has faced his share of controversies, his journey also encompasses profound loss and the enduring legacy of his daughter, Trishala.
