Lokesh Kanagaraj’s much-anticipated film of the year, ‘Leo,’ featuring the charismatic Thalapathy Vijay, has taken the silver screen by storm since its worldwide release on October 19. Despite initial controversies and towering expectations, the film has not only managed to impress critics and audiences but has also shattered box office records with an incredible feat. ‘Leo’ proudly stands as Thalapathy Vijay’s third film to swiftly breach the 300 crore club threshold within its first week, setting the stage for an ambitious journey to surpass the monumental record of ‘Jailer,’ which boasts an impressive 600 crore benchmark.
As the film continues its triumphant theatrical run, the digital rights for ‘Leo’ have been secured by the renowned OTT platform, Netflix India, in a significant deal, as confirmed by Deccan Chronicle. The highly anticipated digital premiere of the film is scheduled for November 21, enhancing the anticipation surrounding the film’s online release, following its theatrical success.
In terms of box office performance, ‘Leo’ maintains its dominance, surpassing initial hurdles and controversies. On its eighth day in theatres, the film collected a remarkable Rs 10.25 crore, according to the entertainment tracker Sacnilk, bringing the net domestic collection to an astounding Rs 265.6 crore.
The film’s Tamil occupancy rate currently stands at an impressive 25.92%, with an upward trend in evening show attendance. ‘Leo’ boasts nearly 900 screenings in Chennai, maintaining a citywide occupancy rate of approximately 33%. Globally, the film has amassed a gross collection of Rs 464.3 crore, with an exceptional first-week collection worldwide, totalling Rs 461 crore.
In addition to the magnetic performance of Thalapathy Vijay, ‘Leo’ features an ensemble cast, including renowned actors such as Sanjay Dutt, Trisha Krishnan, Arjun, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mysskin, and Priya Anand.
