Thalapathy Vijay’s “Leo” Faces Controversy Over Alleged Drug Promotion in Song; Makers Respond

Thalapathy Vijay‘s much-anticipated action film “Leo” has found itself embroiled in controversy as an activist filed a police complaint against the movie’s team. The complaint alleges that the recently released song “Naa Ready” glorifies smoking, drug usage, and rowdyism. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, “Leo” has been generating significant buzz among fans, especially due to its resemblance to the filmmaker’s previous work, “Vikram” (2022), and their connection to the emerging “Lokesh Kanagaraj Universe” (LKU).

The complaint, filed by activist Selvam, claimed that “Naa Ready” contained objectionable lyrics that allegedly promoted drug use. In response to the backlash, the makers of “Leo” have taken appropriate action by adding a smoking disclaimer to the song on YouTube. However, it is worth noting that the disclaimer appears in only a few scenes, and no scenes have been removed from the track. The controversial song, released on Vijay’s 49th birthday, offers fans a glimpse of the film’s storyline and features the actor dancing with his gang in a large arena. Speculation suggests that the narrative of “Leo” may be linked to “Vikram” and “Kaithi,” both directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

In addition to Thalapathy Vijay, “Leo” boasts a star-studded cast including Sanjay Dutt, Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Sarja, Mansoor Ali Khan, Priya Anand, Mysskin, and Gautham Vasudev Menon. For Sanjay Dutt, this marks his second major South Indian action film after Prashanth Neel’s “KGF: Chapter 2.” The movie is produced by SS Lalit Kumar.

While the controversy surrounding the song has sparked debates about the content and its potential influence, the makers of “Leo” are taking steps to address the concerns raised. As the film continues to generate excitement among Thalapathy Vijay’s fans, its release remains highly anticipated.

In other news, Thalapathy Vijay has confirmed his collaboration with filmmaker Venkat Prabhu for an upcoming untitled project, adding further anticipation to his already extensive lineup of films.
