Thalapathy Vijay, the iconic and highly successful actor in the South Indian film industry, had faced initial rejections when it came to getting launched as an actor. SA Chandrasekhar, Vijay’s father and a renowned director, recently shared some interesting insights during an event in Chennai. He revealed that several directors had turned down the opportunity to launch Vijay in his early days.

SA Chandrasekhar reminisced about his journey and disclosed that he had approached director Bharathiraja to direct Vijay’s film but was met with rejection. He recounted Bharathiraja’s response, stating, “When I first came to Chennai with the desire to become a director, I went to Bharathiraja and asked for an opportunity. But he said, ‘We can be friends.’ After that, I became a director and made movies.”

Furthermore, Chandrasekhar revealed that even when he wanted to make a film with Vijay later on, Bharathiraja declined the offer, acknowledging Chandrasekhar’s skills as a director. Additionally, the director-father mentioned approaching Gautam Menon for a potential collaboration with Vijay, but that plan didn’t materialize either.

Despite the initial setbacks, SA Chandrasekhar expressed gratitude that he had the privilege to launch Vijay himself. He emphasized, “In the early days, no good directors came forward to make a film with Vijay. And that’s for the better. He had become a commercial hero only because he came to my hands. He said this is all God’s plan.”

While Vijay’s journey in the industry had its challenges, he has undeniably carved a niche for himself as a mass entertainer and a box office powerhouse. The actor’s upcoming project, titled Leo, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is currently in progress. The film features an impressive ensemble cast, including Trisha Krishnan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priya Anand, Mysskin, and Mansoor Ali Khan, among others. Leo is scheduled to hit theaters on October 19, 2023, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

Thalapathy Vijay’s rise to stardom may have faced initial hurdles, but his talent, dedication, and on-screen charisma have propelled him to become one of the most sought-after actors in the Tamil film industry, with a massive fan following and a string of successful films to his credit.
