Hyderabad: As the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy approaches its one-year milestone on December 7, it plans to unveil comprehensive performance report cards evaluating progress across various sectors. Officials have been tasked with compiling detailed reports that will highlight the effectiveness of key welfare initiatives, investments, and job creation efforts.
These report cards aim to address criticism from opposition parties, particularly the BRS and BJP, who have accused the government of falling short on its promises for welfare and development. The data will encompass the period from December 2023 to November 2024 and will include information on funding for the government’s six key guarantees, such as Rythu Bharosa and crop loan waivers, along with other welfare schemes.
During the 2023 Assembly elections, Congress committed to several significant promises, including:
Mahalakshmi Guarantee: Monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500 for women.
Subsidized Gas Cylinders: Priced at ₹500 each.
Free RTC Bus Travel for Women: Aimed at enhancing mobility.
Rythu Bharosa: Annual aid of ₹15,000 per acre for farmers and ₹12,000 for agricultural laborers.
Gruha Jyothi: 200 units of free electricity per household.
Indiramma Housing Scheme: Provision of 250-square-yard plots for Telangana movement participants and ₹5 lakh for those without housing.
Vidya Bharosa: A ₹5 lakh card for students and establishment of international schools in each mandal under Yuha Vikasam.
Senior Citizen Pension: A monthly pension of ₹4,000.
Rajiv Arogyasri Health Insurance: Coverage of up to ₹10 lakh.
Several initiatives have already seen implementation, including free bus travel for women, subsidized gas, and health insurance through Rajiv Arogyasri. Additionally, the government has waived ₹2 lakh in crop loans for 23 lakh farmers, with approximately ₹18,000 crore directly credited to their accounts.
Daily, around 30 lakh women benefit from free bus travel, while 50 lakh households enjoy free electricity and bi-monthly subsidized gas cylinders. The government has initiated the first phase of the Indiramma housing project, sanctioning four lakh houses, with allotment letters expected to be distributed soon.
On the job creation front, Reddy’s administration has made strides by distributing appointment letters to 50,000 newly recruited employees and facilitating significant private sector job growth, driven by investments totaling ₹92,906 crore from December 2023 to August 2024. This expansion has led to the creation of over 1.13 lakh jobs, aided by the Chief Minister’s international outreach, including visits to Davos and the U.S.
To further bolster employment, the government has released an annual recruitment calendar for government vacancies and introduced a ₹500 bonus per quintal for high-quality paddy from this Kharif season. With these accomplishments, the Congress government seeks to reinforce its achievements as it nears the end of its first year in power.
