The South Indian film industry mourns the tragic loss of Tamil actor and social media sensation, Bijili Ramesh, who passed away at the age of 46 in Chennai this morning. Reports indicate that Ramesh had been battling liver-related health issues and succumbed to his condition on Tuesday, August 27, while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Bijili Ramesh gained prominence when he starred in a viral prank video by a sketch group in 2018, which propelled him to social media stardom overnight. He later appeared in a promotional song alongside Nayanthara and filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar, marking his entry into Tamil cinema with the film “Natpe Thunai” in 2019. His filmography includes roles in movies like “Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kadhal,” “Ponmagal Vandhal,” “Aadai,” and “Sivappu Manjal Pachai.”
Despite his appearances, Ramesh struggled to secure substantial roles in the industry, partly due to his battles with alcoholism, which adversely affected his health and career trajectory. He also participated in the popular television show “Cooku With Comali.”
Bijili Ramesh openly expressed his admiration for legendary actor Rajinikanth, revealing his aspiration to work with him in an interview. He lamented, “I wanted to act with everyone in films, especially my idol Rajini sir. But that wish remained unfulfilled.”
His struggle with alcoholism had been widely reported, with his family recently appealing for financial assistance from the industry to support his medical treatment. His wife shared, “His liver had completely failed due to alcoholism. Despite treatment at Omandurar and Stanley Government Hospitals, including the suggestion of a liver transplant, his condition deteriorated rapidly.”
In his interviews, Ramesh acknowledged his mistakes and urged others to prioritize their health over harmful habits. He leaves behind his wife and son, and the industry extends condolences to his family during this difficult time.
