New Delhi: In a significant development, the Supreme Court today dismissed the Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by Kalvakuntla Taraka Ram Rao (KTR), a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), challenging the Telangana High Court’s order. The High Court had refused to quash a First Information Report (FIR) filed against him in connection with the alleged Formula-E race scam.

The case, which has garnered considerable attention, revolves around KTR’s involvement in the organization of the Formula-E race in Hyderabad, with allegations of financial mismanagement and corruption. The FIR, filed by the Telangana Police, accuses KTR of complicity in the alleged scam, but KTR has consistently denied the charges, asserting that the event was legitimate and beneficial for the state’s growth.

The Supreme Court bench, consisting of Justices Bela M. Trivedi and PB Varale, heard the matter in a brief session today. Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi represented the Telangana government, while Senior Advocate Siddartha Dave appeared on behalf of KTR.

During the proceedings, KTR’s counsel requested to withdraw the petition with liberty to approach the High Court again. However, the state’s counsel opposed the plea for liberty, prompting the bench to dismiss the petition as withdrawn without granting any further relief.

This marks a significant moment in the ongoing legal saga surrounding the Formula-E event, with KTR’s legal team now likely to reassess their strategy going forward. The dismissal also underscores the Supreme Court’s firm stance in matters related to procedural withdrawal without liberty for future filings.

Key Points:

  • Supreme Court’s Decision: Dismissed KTR’s Special Leave Petition.
  • Legal Representatives: Mukul Rohatgi for the Telangana State; Siddartha Dave for KTR.
  • Next Steps: KTR’s legal team may re-approach the High Court for a review.

The Formula-E race saga continues to be a major talking point in Telangana politics, with public and legal scrutiny now firmly focused on the proceedings at the High Court level.
