In a recent interview, Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor candidly expressed his dissatisfaction with his portrayal of Maharaja Ratan Rawal Singh in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic period drama, ‘Padmaavat.’ The actor, who is currently promoting his upcoming movie, openly shared his thoughts on playing a character he did not connect with and how it affected his performance in the 2018 film.

Shahid Kapoor was paired opposite Deepika Padukone, who portrayed the role of Queen Padmavati, while Ranveer Singh played the main antagonist, Alauddin Khilji. Despite the film’s success at the box office, ‘Padmaavat’ faced numerous controversies and boycotts during its release.

During an interview with Humans of Bombay, when asked about a role he would like to play differently, Shahid Kapoor named Maharaja Ratan Rawal Singh from ‘Padmaavat.’ Reflecting on his performance, the actor admitted, “I did not like myself. I was so uptight. I think I did not bring out other elements of that personality, I got stuck in a headspace. I am being candid, maybe other people liked me, but I did not.”

Earlier, in a conversation with DNA, Shahid Kapoor also revealed feeling like an outsider while working on the sets of ‘Padmaavat.’ He explained, “I’m used to being the favorite of all my filmmakers. This was the first time that I was like an outsider. When you work with a team that has worked together, you are kind of an outsider and it takes time for you to break through that barrier.”

Despite his dissatisfaction with his performance and the challenges he faced as an outsider on the sets, Shahid Kapoor remains a sought-after actor in the industry. His next project is Ali Abbas Zafar’s action-thriller, ‘Bloody Daddy,’ which is set to release on Jio Cinemas on June 9. Fans eagerly await his upcoming film and can expect more updates in the near future.
