Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who has recently delivered back-to-back blockbusters with “Jawan” and “Pathaan,” has found himself in the spotlight once again, this time for his security. According to a report in the Indian Express, security agencies in Maharashtra have decided to upgrade Shah Rukh Khan’s security cover to the Y+ category due to perceived threats to the actor. While authorities have confirmed the security enhancement, the nature of the threats remains undisclosed.
As per the Indian Express report, on October 5, the Maharashtra State Intelligence Department (SID) issued a directive to all police commissioners, district police, and special protection units (SPUs) in the state to provide Y+ security with an escort scale to Shah Rukh Khan with immediate effect. This decision came after a recent high-level committee meeting where security concerns and potential threats to the actor were thoroughly reviewed.
The upgraded security detail for Shah Rukh Khan includes 11 personnel, comprising 6 commandos, 4 police officers, and a dedicated traffic clearance vehicle. These security personnel will be stationed at Shah Rukh Khan’s residence, Mannat, in Mumbai. It’s worth noting that the actor will bear the expenses for this enhanced security, and it will remain in place until further recommendations by the high-level committee and subsequent review committee decisions.
Another report from News18 suggests that the decision to provide Y+ security to Shah Rukh Khan was driven by threat perceptions following the success of his two blockbusters, “Jawan” and “Pathaan,” earlier this year. A notification issued by Dilip Sawant, Special Inspector General of Police (VIP security), emphasizes the need for enhanced security, stating, “Given the recent imminent and probable threats to Shah Rukh Khan, cine actor, all unit commanders are requested to provide him Y+ with an escort scale of security on a payment basis, with immediate effect till the next high-level committee recommendation and review committee decision, during his visit/engagements and stay in your jurisdiction to avoid any untoward incident.”
This move comes after a similar security escalation for Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in November 2022 when his security cover was upgraded to the Y+ category due to alleged threats from gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
As Shah Rukh Khan continues to enjoy his successful run in the film industry, his safety remains a top priority for authorities. Fans hope that the actor can continue to entertain and inspire audiences while staying safe and secure.
