Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta recently shared insights on the box office performances of Salman Khan’s “Tiger 3” and Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan,” noting how the sequence of their releases could have influenced their box office outcomes.
“Jawan,” helmed by director Atlee Kumar, debuted on September 7, 2023, and swiftly crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark, becoming a major box office success. In contrast, “Tiger 3,” directed by Maneesh Sharma, hit theatres on November 12, 2023, accumulating approximately Rs 450 crore in collections.
Gupta took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his perspective, suggesting that had “Tiger 3” premiered before “Jawan,” the scenario might have been different. He attributed this potential difference to Atlee’s directorial prowess, stating, “It’s just that Atlee set a whole new benchmark with every scene he shot.”
I strongly feel that had TIGER 3 come before JAWAN things would have been different.

“Jawan,” produced by Gauri Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment, marked Atlee Kumar’s Hindi directorial debut. Featuring Shah Rukh Khan alongside Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Priyamani, and Sanya Malhotra, the movie notched a remarkable box office success, crossing Rs 1,148.32 crore and emerging as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2023.
Conversely, “Tiger 3,” the YRF Spy Universe’s fifth instalment and sequel to “Tiger Zinda Hai,” starred Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Emraan Hashmi. Produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, it amassed approximately Rs 466 crore worldwide, ranking as the fifth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2023.
While both movies garnered attention and substantial box office numbers, Gupta’s commentary suggests that the timing of their releases might have influenced their comparative successes.
