The highly anticipated sequel to Rishab Shetty‘s blockbuster film, ‘Kantara,’ is set to commence shooting soon. The actor-director confirmed the news following the phenomenal success of the first instalment, released in September last year. Rishab has spent considerable time working on the script and scouting locations, including an extensive exploration of coastal and forest regions in Karnataka earlier this year.

According to producer Vijay Kiragandur, filming for ‘Kantara 2’ is scheduled to begin in June, as certain scenes require the backdrop of the rainy season. The film is expected to have a pan-India release around April or May next year. While the budget for the sequel will see an increase, the creative team is committed to maintaining the style, narration, and cinematography that made the original ‘Kantara’ a success, ensuring continuity and authenticity. Notably, renowned actors may join the cast of the film.

The first instalment, made on a modest budget of Rs 16 crore, surpassed expectations at the box office, earning over Rs 400 crore worldwide. Building on this success, the sequel aims to captivate audiences with its compelling storytelling and visual appeal.

In addition to its commercial achievements, ‘Kantara’ garnered recognition on the international stage. Earlier this year, Rishab Shetty had the honour of presenting the film at the United Nations in Geneva. Speaking at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), he highlighted the importance of environmental sustainability and the cultural rights of forest dwellers. Rishab emphasized that ‘Kantara’ explores the human connection with nature and the interdependence between existence and cultural values.

Sharing his pride in representing ECO FAWN, a conservation non-profit organization from India, Rishab took to social media to express his gratitude for the opportunity to showcase the film’s message on a global platform. ‘Kantara’ encompasses elements of human life immersed in nature, local beliefs, and rituals, shedding light on the deep connection between communities and their natural surroundings.

As the shooting for ‘Kantara 2’ prepares to kick off, fans eagerly anticipate another cinematic journey that blends entertainment with environmental consciousness and cultural exploration.
