Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and his alleged partner Pavithra Gowda have been in judicial custody since June in connection with the murder of Renuka Swamy. Recently, Darshan’s lawyer filed a bail application before the 57th Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge court in Bengaluru, expected to be heard on Today (September 23).
Having spent 100 days in custody at Ballari Central Jail, Darshan consulted with his legal team before filing for bail. The Kamakshipalya police had previously filed a comprehensive 3,991-page charge sheet naming 17 individuals, including Darshan Thoogudeepa.
While Darshan’s bail application has been submitted, other accused, including actress Pavithra, have seen their bail applications rejected. These individuals are anticipated to seek bail again before the end of their judicial custody on September 30.
In a parallel development, Darshan’s family plans to file a complaint with the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) against Ballari prison officials, citing alleged inadequate facilities for the incarcerated actor. However, a senior jail official, as reported by HashtagU, countered these claims, asserting that Darshan receives treatment in accordance with prison regulations and has been provided with a television and a surgical chair in his cell.
Darshan faces judicial custody for his alleged involvement in the murder of his fan Renuka Swamy, reportedly triggered by derogatory remarks made by the victim against Pavithra. The incident allegedly led Darshan to orchestrate the murder with the assistance of his associates.
