In 1991, the iconic film Thalapathi marked the first collaboration between superstar Rajinikanth and acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam, alongside Mammootty. Despite its commercial success, Rajinikanth revealed his initial struggles with the film, where Kamal Haasan came to his aid.
During a 2022 event, Rajinikanth reminisced about the challenges he faced on the sets of Thalapathi. He recounted how his established acting style clashed with Mani Ratnam’s directorial vision, which demanded a departure from his usual expressions. Rajinikanth sought advice from Kamal Haasan, who humorously predicted his predicament and suggested he observe and emulate Mani Ratnam’s approach.
Reflecting on this pivotal moment, Rajinikanth credited Kamal Haasan’s guidance over a phone call for helping him adjust and enhance his performance in the film.
Meanwhile, both legendary actors continue to embark on exciting new projects. Rajinikanth is gearing up for the release of ‘Vettaiyan,’ directed by TJ Gnanavel and featuring Fahadh Faasil, Amitabh Bachchan, and Manju Warrier, scheduled to hit theaters on October 14. He also has collaborations lined up with Lokesh Kanagaraj for ‘Coolie’ and possibly a sequel to ‘Jailer,’ as hinted by Yogi Babu.
On the other hand, Kamal Haasan, last seen in ‘Indian 2,’ is preparing for ‘Thug Life’ and a reunion with Mani Ratnam for an upcoming project. Additionally, he is set to reprise his role in Nag Ashwin’s sequel to ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ continuing his journey in epic sci-fi.
