Allu Arjun’s highly anticipated movie, “Pushpa 2: The Rule,” directed by Sukumar, has set the film industry abuzz. The sequel to the blockbuster “Pushpa” has not only released a thrilling teaser but also made headlines by securing a monumental deal for its digital rights. Netflix, in a move that has left fans and industry insiders alike in awe, clinched these rights for an impressive sum of Rs. 275 crore, with the potential to escalate to Rs. 300 crore based on the film’s box office performance.
This deal is not just a milestone. It’s a game-changer. It has surpassed the previous record held by “RRR,” which sold its digital rights for Rs. 170 crore. The dynamic pricing model adopted for “Pushpa 2” is a testament to the evolving trends in the industry, where digital rights are initially set at a base price with provisions for upward adjustments linked to theatrical returns.
In addition to Netflix’s landmark acquisition, Anil Thadani has snapped up the film’s distribution rights for North India for a whopping Rs. 200 crore in advance, further emphasizing the high expectations and demand for this sequel.
“Pushpa 2” continues to follow the story of its titular character, portrayed by Allu Arjun, whose performance in the first instalment garnered widespread acclaim. With critical roles reprised by Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil and music composed by DSP, the film is poised to captivate audiences once again.
Currently in production, “Pushpa 2” is scheduled for completion by the end of May and will be released on August 15, 2024. The first Pushpa film achieved remarkable success during the pandemic, earning Rs. 125 crore in the Hindi market alone, setting high expectations for the sequel to make even more significant strides in rewriting box office history.
