Actor Allu Arjun was arrested on Friday in connection with the stampede that occurred at Sandhya Theatre during the Pushpa 2 premiere over a week ago. The tragic incident, which took place on December 4, resulted in the death of 35-year-old Revathi, while her son remains hospitalized and is still undergoing treatment.
A police team, led by the assistant commissioner, arrived at Allu Arjun’s residence to take him into custody, with his family members present at the time. The authorities then escorted the actor to their vehicle before transporting him to the police station.
The incident occurred on December 4 when Allu Arjun arrived at Sandhya Theatre for the Pushpa 2 premiere, accompanied by his security team. His presence reportedly caused an unmanaged surge of people attempting to enter the venue, leading to a stampede. The chaos was further exacerbated by alleged poor crowd management, which eventually resulted in a lathi charge by the authorities.
According to the police, the theatre management failed to make adequate security arrangements to control the crowd and did not establish separate entry or exit points for the actor’s team, despite being informed of his arrival in advance.
In connection with the incident, three individuals, including a co-owner of the theatre, were previously arrested. The police filed a case against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under sections 105 and 118(1) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Chikkadpally police station, following a complaint from the family of the deceased woman. Allu Arjun had also filed a petition seeking to quash the FIR and requested a stay on all further legal proceedings, including his arrest.
