Priyanka Chopra, the Bollywood actress, has been subjected to severe criticism and trolling after she referred to the Telugu film ‘RRR’, starring NTR Jr and Ram Charan, as a Tamil movie during an interview on Dax Shepherd’s podcast channel ‘Armchair Expert’. The podcast episode was uploaded on March 22 and has since received negative reactions from the audience.
During the interview, Dax Shepherd compared Bollywood to the Hollywood of the 50s, where big studios and a few actors dominated the industry. Priyanka agreed with this comparison, and while correcting Dax’s reference to ‘RRR’ as a Bollywood movie, she mistakenly referred to it as a Tamil film. The correction came after Dax mentioned the film’s song ‘Natu Natu’, which was a hit at the 95th Oscars.
Priyanka stated, “This is not a Bollywood movie, but a Tamil movie. It’s a big mega-blockbuster Tamil movie, and it’s Maa Avengers.” However, the film is originally in Telugu, not Tamil.
Social media users swiftly criticized Priyanka’s mistake, with some pointing out that it reflected her lack of knowledge about Indian cinema. One user wrote, “If this is to be believed, Priyanka Chopra has no knowledge of Indian cinema. RRR is a Telugu original movie, not a Tamil movie.”
The incident has highlighted the importance of accurate representation and awareness in the film industry, especially in a country as diverse as India, where language and cultural differences are significant. The incident serves as a reminder to all celebrities to be mindful of their statements and to educate themselves about the art and culture of the nation they represent.
