Ponniyin Selvan-2 Box Office Collection Day 6: Mani Ratnam’s Magnum Opus Nears 150 Crore Mark in India

Mani Ratnam’s epic historical drama ‘Ponniyin Selvan-2’ is creating waves at the box office. Starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, and Sobhita Dhulipala, the film has raked in Rs 122 crore in India in its first six days. The movie opened to a massive Rs 24 crore nett in India, and its box office collections saw a huge jump on Sunday, making Rs 30.3 crore nett.

The film breached the benchmark of Rs 200 crore (gross) worldwide on Tuesday. The movie has received better reviews and word-of-mouth compared to the first film in the series, which is expected to translate into substantial box office numbers. The movie has already grossed around Rs 173 crore in its first weekend and surpassed the lifetime collection of ‘Ponniyin Selvan-1’.

Saturday – Rs 26.2 crore,
Sunday – Rs 30.3 crore,
Monday – Rs 23.25 crore,
Tuesday – Rs 10.5 crore, and
Wednesday (early estimate) – Rs 8 crore. Total: Rs 122.25 crore

The film is on the verge of entering its second weekend with a winning streak, and its box office collection is expected to surpass the Rs 150 crore mark in India soon.

With this pace, ‘Ponniyin Selvan-2’ is set to make history for Mani Ratnam at the box office and emerge as the highest-grossing movie of his career. It took the movie four days to make a double century at the box office while its predecessor achieved the feat worldwide in just three days.
