Hyderabad: After a seven-month hiatus, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) returned to the party headquarters, Telangana Bhavan, on Wednesday, February 19, to chair an extended executive meeting.
With the party reeling from its loss to the Congress in the Telangana Assembly elections and a complete wipeout in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the BRS is now strategising for a political comeback. The meeting focused on aggressively countering the Congress government’s “failures” in fulfilling its electoral promises.
Senior party leaders, including the BRS executive, district presidents, sitting and former MPs, MLAs, MLCs, ex-Chairpersons of Corporations, Zilla Parishads, and constituency in-charges, participated in the discussions. The party is expected to outline an action plan to rebuild its base and prepare for the 2028 state elections.
A key decision on the agenda is the selection of a new woman president for the party, along with a renewed focus on 53 assembly seats reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs). The move is seen as part of KCR’s efforts to restructure and revive the party’s fortunes in Telangana.
The BRS leadership is expected to intensify its attacks on the ruling Congress, highlighting its alleged governance lapses and unfulfilled commitments. Party insiders believe the revamped leadership and a clear electoral roadmap will be crucial in positioning BRS as a strong opposition force in the state.
