After establishing herself as a superstar in the South Indian film industry, Nayanthara recently made her highly-anticipated Bollywood debut alongside Shah Rukh Khan in Atlee’s film, “Jawan.” While many expected this move to open the doors to more Bollywood projects for her, it appears that things might not be going as planned.
According to reports from Hindustan Times and industry insiders, Nayanthara is reportedly upset with director Atlee due to the way her role was handled in “Jawan.” Despite being the leading lady of the movie, her role was allegedly significantly reduced, while Deepika Padukone’s cameo received significant attention and screen time. This treatment led to speculation that “Jawan” appeared to be more of an SRK-Deepika film than Nayanthara’s Bollywood debut.
Nayanthara’s absence from the film’s promotional events, including the recent success meet in Mumbai, raised questions about her commitment to the project. However, sources close to the actress clarified that she follows a strict no-promotion policy for her films, a decision influenced by past experiences of being misquoted in the media.
While “Jawan” has been a massive box office success, crossing the Rs 900 crore mark globally within 13 days of release, it remains uncertain whether this success will translate into more Bollywood projects for Nayanthara. Industry experts suggest that Nayanthara, who is known as the Lady Superstar in the South, may face challenges in Bollywood due to her age, as she is nearing 40. However, her performance in “Jawan” opposite Shah Rukh Khan received widespread praise.

Nayanthara’s debut in Bollywood with “Jawan” was highly anticipated, and while there have been speculations about her remuneration for the film, sources suggest that her fees depend on the project and people involved. Her remuneration typically ranges from ₹5 crore to ₹10-12 crore, making her one of the highest-paid actresses in the South.
Nayanthara’s Bollywood debut in “Jawan” has garnered attention, but she reported displeasure with the handling of her role and the film’s promotion strategy may impact her future projects in the Hindi film industry. Despite the film’s success, it remains to be seen whether Nayanthara will continue to explore opportunities in Bollywood or focus on her established career in the South Indian film industry.
