On Wednesday, April 5, 2023, MM Keeravani, the renowned music composer, was awarded the Padma Shri by President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Padma Shri is India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, conferred by the President of India in recognition of exceptional contributions in various fields. MM Keeravani received the award for his substantial contributions to the music industry.
Born in Kovvuru, Andhra Pradesh, MM Keeravani started his career as a music director in the Telugu film industry. His innovative and catchy compositions quickly became a defining feature of his style, and he gained recognition for his work. Over the years, he has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the film industry, including Mani Ratnam, Ram Gopal Varma, and SS Rajamouli.

Recently, at the 95th Academy Awards, MM Keeravani received an Oscar for his song “Naatu Naatu,” which was featured in the movie RRR. The song won the Best Original Song category, and its performance received a standing ovation at the event.
In a previous tweet, he expressed his gratitude for the honour, saying, “Much honoured by the civilian award from the Govt of India Respect for my parents and all of my mentors from Kavitapu Seethanna garu to Kuppala Bulliswamy Naidu garu on this occasion.” MM Keeravani is renowned for his songwriting in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, and his popular Hindi songs include “O Saathiya,” “Gali Mein Aaj Chand Nikla,” and “Tu Mile Dil Khile.”
