Shah Rukh Khan‘s “Jawan” recently made its debut on Netflix, introducing an ‘extended version’ that promised unseen footage and additional scenes not featured in the original theatrical release. However, two days into its streaming, audiences have expressed disappointment and scepticism, questioning the legitimacy of the proclaimed ‘extended cut’ and its relevance to the overall narrative. Netizens, including ardent SRK fans, have taken to social media platforms to voice their discontent, alleging that the added content falls short of expectations and fails to provide substantial insights or surprises.
According to reports, the extended version on Netflix has merely added five minutes to the original runtime of the movie, incorporating supplementary scenes that offer insights into certain character backstories and plot intricacies. These scenes include an exploration of Lakshmi’s character background portrayed by Priyamani, the transformation of Pappu, the Health Minister’s assistant, Inspector Madhavan Naik’s public humiliation, and the compensation of Kalee’s victims. Despite these additions, viewers have highlighted the absence of significant plot developments or compelling elements that could have enhanced the overall narrative depth.
The absence of an impactful contribution from Nayanthara, who previously hinted at additional unreleased scenes, has particularly disappointed a section of the audience. With anticipation for more substantial and engaging content, fans have expressed frustration over what they perceive as a misleading marketing strategy, labelling the extended version as a mere ‘scam’ with negligible value in addition to the original storyline.
“Jawan” has already cemented its position as one of the highest-grossing Indian blockbusters of all time, amassing a staggering worldwide collection of Rs 1160 crore and a domestic nett collection of Rs 640.25 crore. Directed by Atlee, the film represents Shah Rukh Khan’s second remarkable box-office success this year, solidifying his enduring influence and appeal within Indian cinema. As opinions continue circulating regarding the ‘extended cut’ on Netflix, audiences remain eager for genuine and enriching cinematic experiences that live up to their expectations.
