Kantara, the Kannada blockbuster, has been in the limelight once again due to a copyright case filed against its makers for their theme song “Varaha Roopam.” The Kerala-based band Thaikkudam Bridge has accused the music director of Kantara of plagiarism, claiming that he had taken inspiration from their song, Navarasam. The court has prohibited the use of the song in the film, and the makers have been facing legal issues over the past year.

In the latest development, the Kozhikode Chief Judicial Magistrate directed the police to seize documents related to the plagiarized song. The magistrate cited the Copyright Act 1957 and ordered the investigating officer to submit the final report by May 4. The case has been ongoing for some time, with the Kerala High Court officially stating earlier this year that the song was a plagiarized version.

The legal issues have caused delays for the makers of Kantara, and there have been no updates on the case from their team. The film, which was praised for its integration of local culture and fantasy elements, won hearts at the box office and received critical acclaim. However, the copyright case has brought negative attention to the film.

It remains to be seen how the case will be resolved, and whether the makers of Kantara will be able to use the song in future screenings or on OTT platforms. For now, the legal action will continue to take its course, and the fate of the popular theme song remains uncertain.
