Renowned Bollywood actress Kajol Devgan recently joined the growing chorus of celebrities expressing their concerns over the relentless paparazzi culture. In a recent interview with Miss Malini, the acclaimed actress emphasized the need to establish boundaries when it comes to the invasion of privacy by paparazzi photographers.

Acknowledging that being clicked on by the paparazzi is part of her job as an actor, Kajol raised her voice against the excessive intrusion into personal spaces. She questioned the incessant pursuit of actors by paparazzi, remarking, “I do think this is too much right now. It is like a pendulum, it started, and it’s gaining momentum, gaining momentum, and it’s at the height right now. It has to come down because somewhere down the line we are actors, it’s a question of balance, it will come down.”

Sharing a recent incident, Kajol recounted being followed by two paparazzi on a bike while she was crossing Bandra, Mumbai. Expressing her frustration, she stated, “They followed my car all the way… I had not gone for a shoot, I had not gone to a public place, I had not gone to a hotel or a restaurant.”

Kajol raised a pertinent question about the double standards faced by celebrities, highlighting that if a similar incident occurred with an ordinary person, they would likely file a police complaint. However, as a star, she felt compelled to accept it as part of her life, stating, “Because I am a star I can’t say, ‘Why are you following me?’ Because I am a star I cannot be threatened by it. Because I am a star I have 7-8 people standing over there with cameras regardless of what I am wearing. I have to be constantly on my guard.”

The issue of invasion of privacy by the paparazzi is not a new one in the entertainment industry. Last year, actress Alia Bhatt also expressed her displeasure with paparazzi photographers allegedly invading her privacy by clicking pictures of her in her living room during a private moment. Other celebrities, including Anushka Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jaya Bachchan, have previously voiced their disappointment with the escalating paparazzi culture.

The statements made by Kajol shed light on the need for a balanced approach that respects the privacy of celebrities while acknowledging their public persona. The conversation surrounding the paparazzi culture and its impact on the mental well-being of actors continues to evolve. It remains to be seen whether these concerns will prompt changes in the practices of the media and paparazzi in the future.
