Kajol Devgan’s Decision to Refuse Aamir Khan’s Film Revealed by Director Dharmesh Darshan

Renowned Bollywood actress Kajol Devgan has left an indelible mark in the industry with her stellar performances and versatile roles in iconic films such as “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,” “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham,” “My Name is Khan,” and “Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge,” among others. Known for her exceptional acting prowess and a massive fan following, Kajol has often been selective about her projects, focusing on content-driven roles and scripts. However, a recent revelation by director Dharmesh Darshan sheds light on an instance when the actress declined to work with Aamir Khan on a film.

In a recent interview, director Dharmesh Darshan disclosed that Kajol had once turned down a film opposite Aamir Khan. The film in question was the Dharmesh Darshan-directed “Mela.” Allegedly, Kajol hesitated to take up the project due to Aamir Khan’s reputed preference for multiple takes during filming. Known for her spontaneous acting style, Kajol typically delivered scenes flawlessly in a single take.

Dharmesh Darshan shared, “All my friends had worked with her, but I worked with Lolo (Karisma Kapoor). Kajol was supposed to be in Mela, but there was some discomfort from her side. She was not sure about Aamir at that point, though later on, they did (work together). She’s a one-take actor, and he takes many takes. So, she had those reservations about her spontaneity. But she was very gracious; she came to my house and explained it to me. Kajol was not known to do these things.”

Subsequently, “Mela” was produced with Twinkle Khanna in the lead role. Regrettably, the film is remembered as one of the least successful ventures in Aamir Khan’s career. Despite its moderate success at the box office, the film was met with negative reviews from critics and audiences alike.

Dharmesh also disclosed that initially, he had reservations about making “Mela,” but it was his mother who convinced him to proceed with the project. Additionally, he mentioned that Aamir Khan’s primary focus was on providing a solid launch platform for his brother, Faisal Khan, through the film. Dharmesh revealed that Aamir was not heavily involved in the film’s development process.

As this revelation surfaces, fans continue to admire Kajol’s dedication to her craft and her adherence to her unique acting style, underscoring her esteemed position in the realm of Indian cinema.
