Two Bollywood icons, Kajol Devgan and Anil Kapoor, have come together after 24 years to promote their web series on Disney+ Hotstar. The stars, who had previously shared screen space in the late Satish Kaushik’s directorial “Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain,” have reunited, not for a film or show, but to cross-promote their respective projects on the streaming platform.
Anil Kapoor portrays the formidable villain Shelly Rungta in Sandeep Modi’s Hindi adaptation of the popular action thriller “The Night Manager.” Meanwhile, Kajol takes on the role of a lawyer in Suparn Verma’s legal drama “The Trial: Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha,” the Hindi adaptation of the renowned American series “The Good Wife.” Both series are set to release on July 14.
In a promotional video shared by Hotstar, Kajol is seen making a phone call to her former co-star, Anil Kapoor. After exchanging pleasantries, Anil starts singing the title track of their previous film, “Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain,” much to Kajol’s annoyance.

During their conversation, Kajol reveals her role as a lawyer in “The Trial: Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha.” Anil suggests that she seek tips from him since he played a lawyer early in his career, possibly referring to his lead role in Subhash Ghai’s 1985 courtroom drama “Meri Jung.”
A playful argument ensues as Anil and Kajol debate whose show is better. Kajol highlights the drama and a sex scandal in her series, while Anil counters by emphasizing the ample scope for drama and sex appeal in his villainous role. Anil playfully remarks, “Bobby ko bevakoof banane se koi villain nahi ban jata,” alluding to Kajol’s award-winning portrayal as a villain in Rajiv Rai’s 1997 thriller “Gupt: The Hidden Truth,” where she frames Bobby Deol’s character and his love interest, portrayed by Manisha Koirala.
However, Kajol has the last laugh in the argument as she humorously points out the villainous act of releasing only four episodes of “The Night Manager” in March, leaving viewers waiting for the remaining three, which were finally released on June 29 after a four-month wait. The conversation ends as they disconnect the call and inform their teams that they won’t be able to continue cross-promoting their shows further.
Fans of Kajol and Anil Kapoor eagerly await their upcoming web series on Disney+ Hotstar, and this delightful reunion and cross-promotion only add to the excitement. As these two Bollywood legends join forces to promote their projects, audiences can look forward to witnessing their stellar performances in their respective web series, creating buzz and anticipation in the digital entertainment space.
