In a delightful turn of events for the Indian film industry, several notable releases have recently captivated international audiences in markets like Japan and Russia. From blockbusters to critically acclaimed ventures, these films have managed to shine overseas, showcasing the global appeal of Indian cinema. Additionally, the latest list of highest-grossing Indian films at the international box office sees some familiar names dominating the rankings.

RRR’s Resilience in Japan:

The magnum opus “RRR,” directed by S.S. Rajamouli, continues to make waves in Japan. Since its last update in May, the film has surpassed the JPY 2 billion gross mark and is now in its 40th week of running. The Japanese collections have now reached a commendable JPY 2.25 billion ($16.65 million / Rs. 136.70 crores). Notably, the film’s global overseas collection stands at an impressive $45 million, securing its position as the 8th highest-grossing Indian film internationally. Worldwide, “RRR” has amassed a staggering Rs. 1252 crores. To further expand its reach, a Japanese dubbed version of the film is set to release soon, and a one-year run in Japan seems highly likely, a feat that appeared unimaginable a year ago.

Pathaan’s Promising Journey:

The Shah Rukh Khan starrer “Pathaan” has been garnering attention with its international releases. After its original release in January, the film made history in Bangladesh with a successful run, grossing $225,000 and selling over 1 lakh tickets, outperforming even “Avatar 2.” Recently, a Russian dubbed version of “Pathaan” hit the screens in Russia, contributing to its growing overseas success. The Russian release has collected $52,000 to date. The film’s total overseas collections have now reached $49.20 million (Rs. 403 crores), and with a Japan release scheduled in September, its global journey continues.

Rangasthalam’s Japanese Debut:

“Rangasthalam,” the Telugu film starring Ram Charan, took advantage of the buzz surrounding “RRR” and made its Japanese debut last week. Despite being a five-year-old film, its limited release in Japan garnered JPY 20.85 million ($140K), a commendable feat for the movie.

KGF’s Double Impact in Japan:

The “KGF” franchise also made its presence felt in Japan, with both “KGF: Chapter 1” and “KGF: Chapter 2” releasing simultaneously. Each film grossed JPY 10 million ($70K) in the country, showcasing the immense popularity of Indian cinema in the Japanese market. “KGF: Chapter 2” secured its spot as the fourteenth highest-grossing Indian film internationally.
