The world of Indian entertainment may soon witness a new star rising, as former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is reportedly considering an acting debut. His wife, Sakshi Dhoni, confirmed the speculation during a press conference in Chennai, where she also discussed the couple’s newly launched production house, Dhoni Entertainment.
The couple’s production house, Dhoni Entertainment, recently announced its debut venture, “Let’s Get Married,” a Tamil film directed by Ramesh Thamilmani. The film will also be released in Telugu and stars Nadiya, Yogi Babu, and Mirchi Vijay. As the production house takes its first steps in the world of cinema, the focus now turns to the possibility of MS Dhoni stepping in front of the camera.
During the press conference to promote “Let’s Get Married,” Sakshi Dhoni was asked about the potential of her husband taking on a lead role in a film. In response, she said, “If there’s something good, he may just (do it). He is not camera-shy. He has been acting in advertisements since 2006, and he is not afraid of facing the camera. So, might do it if there’s something good.”
While discussing the genres that would best suit MS Dhoni, Sakshi expressed that action films would be an ideal choice, given his affinity for action-packed activities both on and off the cricket field. She said, “Action. He is always in action. What would you choose for him? If we plan to make a movie with MS Dhoni as a hero, then it will only be an action-packed entertainer. If a character with a good story and good message comes, then MS Dhoni will consider acting in a movie.” Ramesh Thamilmani, the director of “Let’s Get Married,” also chimed in, expressing his desire to see the cricketer in a superhero film, calling him a real-life superhero.
Speaking about the involvement of the producers in the Tamil film, Ramesh Thamilmani shared, “Sakshi was particular about having a heroine who can speak Tamil and not some actor from the North. She wanted things to be authentic. Also, both Dhoni and she were very supportive. Dhoni told me that ‘More than anything else, we should like what we have done. Everything else comes later. In that way, I am proud of what you guys have made with LGM.’ Dhoni has so far watched the film thrice.”
Mahendra Singh Dhoni has had a deep emotional connection with Tamil Nadu, where he is affectionately known as “Thala” (leader) ever since his association with the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Chennai Super Kings. His popularity and massive fan following extend beyond cricket, and it seems fans might soon see a new facet of this cricket superstar on the silver screen.
As speculation mounts over the possibility of MS Dhoni taking up acting, fans and the entertainment industry eagerly await further announcements. If the talented cricketer decides to don a new hat as an actor, it is bound to be an exciting addition to the world of Indian cinema.
