Demolition Commences on Nagarjuna’s Controversial N-Convention Centre in Hyderabad

The Hyderabad Disaster Relief and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) initiated the demolition of the prominent N-Convention Centre near Hitech City in Madhapur on Saturday. The convention centre, owned by Tollywood actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, faced serious allegations of encroaching upon approximately 3.30 to 3.40 acres of Thammidi kunta lake’s Full Tank Level (FTL) area.

Controversy has surrounded the convention centre for several years due to its construction within the FTL/Buffer zone of the lake. Bhaskar Reddy and others filed complaints, prompting HYDRAA officials to take action and restore the lake.

The demolition process is being carried out under tight security with police personnel deployed. All roads leading to the convention centre have been sealed off, and media access to the site has been restricted to cover the demolitions.

Early Saturday morning, HYDRAA authorities, accompanied by a large contingent of police, began the demolition process at the N-Convention Centre. The centre, equipped with three function halls featuring advanced infrastructure and technology, has served as a venue for prestigious official and social events. It has hosted weddings, engagements, and other functions attended by political leaders and celebrities from the film industry.

The centre’s construction has been mired in controversy due to allegations of encroaching upon 3.30 acres of the Full Tank Level (FTL) area of Thammidi Kunta lake. The lake spans 29 acres, and a survey conducted by joint teams from Revenue, Irrigation, and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) a few years ago determined that out of the 6.69 acres on which the convention centre stands, approximately 3.30 acres were encroached upon, resulting in the construction of permanent structures. Of this encroached land, about two acres were within the Buffer Zone, while 1.3 acres encroached into the lake’s FTL area.

Akkineni Nagarjuna’s statement regarding the demolition of N Convention Centre:

“I am deeply pained by the unlawful demolition carried out at N Convention today, contrary to existing stay orders and ongoing court cases. I find it necessary to issue this statement to clarify certain facts to protect my reputation and emphasize that we have always operated within the bounds of the law.

The land in question is Patta land, and not an inch of tank plan has been encroached upon. There is a valid stay order against any previous illegal demolition notices pertaining to the building constructed on private land.

Today’s demolition was clearly executed based on misinformation, without any prior notice. As a law-abiding citizen, had the court ruled against me, I would have personally facilitated the demolition.

I am issuing this statement to rectify any public misperception regarding unauthorized constructions or encroachments by us. We will seek appropriate legal relief to address the unjust actions taken by the authorities.”

This version captures the essence of Nagarjuna’s concerns and his intent to address the situation through legal means.
