Vijayawada: In a significant address aimed at reshaping his party’s strategy, TDP Supremo and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu urged legislators to avoid the vindictive politics reminiscent of the previous YSRC administration. This message was delivered during a six-hour meeting with party legislators and ministers to mark the first 125 days of the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh.

A Call for Integrity

During the meeting, Naidu acknowledged the challenges TDP members have faced over the past five years. He emphasized the need for a disciplined and ethical approach to governance. He stated, “If you (party leaders) engage in vindictive politics, people will begin to see no distinction between the previous and current regimes. Don’t bring shame to the government or tarnish its image.” This statement underscored the importance of maintaining the party’s integrity in the eyes of the public.

Guidelines on Business Conduct

Naidu established specific guidelines regarding party involvement in certain businesses. He instructed leaders to refrain from interfering in the liquor trade unless they owned businesses and advised against using the free sand policy. He emphasized, “We all need to maintain some discipline,” highlighting the importance of ethical conduct among party members.

Emphasising Credibility

The TDP Chief pointed out the fragile nature of political credibility, stating, “It takes considerable time and effort for a political party or leader to gain credibility. However, it only takes a brief moment to lose it.” This caution reminded TDP members to act responsibly and uphold the party’s standards in their political dealings.

Critique of the YSRC Regime

Naidu openly criticized the previous administration, asserting that the NDA government inherited a debt of ₹10.5 lakh crore due to the financial mismanagement of the YSRC regime, led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. He stated, “Thanks to the support extended by the Centre, the state was able to cope with the situation.” This comment aimed to reinforce the TDP’s image as a responsible governing body.

TDP’s Role in National Politics

In a broader context, Naidu emphasized the TDP’s essential role in national politics, asserting, “We have never sought power but have always strived for the well-being of the nation and the state.” This declaration aimed to position the TDP as a party focused on public service rather than political ambition.

Learning from Prime Minister Modi

In a recent address, Naidu praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the lessons TDP leaders could learn from his persistence and strong work ethic. Naidu stated, “Modi’s dedication and discipline are key reasons for his success. He ensures that no leader in the party makes mistakes.” This statement was intended to inspire TDP leaders to adopt similar strategies in their political endeavours.

Strategic Alliances

Naidu also reflected on the importance of forming alliances. He recalled a pivotal meeting with Jana Sena President Pawan Kalyan at a crucial moment in his career, where Kalyan announced plans for the two parties to contest the polls together. Additionally, Naidu mentioned that the BJP has offered to ally with the TDP, emphasizing unity among political partners.

Naidu’s address aimed to instil a renewed sense of discipline and responsibility among TDP leaders. He called for focused efforts to meet the people’s aspirations, especially now that the NDA governs both the Centre and the state. By fostering close coordination with alliance partners, Naidu is determined to enhance the TDP’s effectiveness and credibility in the political landscape.
