Megastar Chiranjeevi, an iconic figure in the South Indian film industry, has captivated audiences for over four decades with his versatile performances. Apart from being a highly acclaimed actor, Chiranjeevi has also dabbled in politics, showcasing his multifaceted personality. Throughout his illustrious career, the megastar has taken on several film projects that were adaptations of successful movies from other languages. Let’s take a closer look at some of Chiranjeevi’s notable films that were remakes:

Godfather (2022):

Chiranjeevi’s “Godfather” is a remake of the popular Malayalam film “Lucifer,” which featured Mohanlal in the lead role. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the Telugu version, helmed by Mohan Raja, hit screens in 2022. While the film received mixed reviews from audiences and critics, Chiranjeevi’s portrayal garnered praise for his powerful performance.

Shankar Dada M.B.B.S. (2004):

“Shankar Dada M.B.B.S.” stands as the Telugu adaptation of the Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi starrer, “Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.” Directed by Jayanth C Paranjee, this comedy-drama became a resounding success at the box office, winning over audiences with its humorous storyline and Chiranjeevi’s charismatic presence.

Anji (2004):

The action-adventure film “Anji,” featuring Chiranjeevi and Namrata Shirodkar, drew inspiration from the popular Hollywood movie “Indiana Jones.” Unfortunately, despite its intriguing concept, Chiranjeevi’s version failed to strike a chord with the audience and was declared a commercial flop.

Mugguru Monagallu (1994):

Directed by K. Raghavendra Rao, “Mugguru Monagallu” showcased Chiranjeevi in three distinct roles. It was speculated that the film drew inspiration from the Bollywood flick “Yaadon Ki Baaraat.” The movie proved to be a massive hit, further solidifying Chiranjeevi’s star power at the box office.

Shankar Dada Zindabad (2007):

In “Shankar Dada Zindabad,” Chiranjeevi took on the lead role in the Telugu remake of Sanjay Dutt’s “Lage Raho Munna Bhai.” Directed by Prabhu Deva, the film failed to replicate the success of its original counterpart, resulting in a lukewarm response from the audience.

Adavi Donga (1985):

Considered a popular film from Chiranjeevi’s repertoire, “Adavi Donga,” directed by K. Raghavendra Rao, is believed to be influenced by both Bollywood and Hollywood’s movies centred around the legendary character Tarzan. With Chiranjeevi at the helm, supported by a talented cast, the film enjoyed great success at the box office.

Chiranjeevi’s inclination towards remakes has allowed him to explore diverse characters while showcasing his exceptional acting prowess. While some of these adaptations have soared to great heights, others faced challenges in resonating with the audience. Nevertheless, Chiranjeevi’s legacy as a performer and his contribution to the South Indian film industry remains unparalleled.
