Amidst the havoc caused by Cyclone Michaung’s heavy rains, Chennai faces a dire situation as streets submerged, leaving life at a standstill. Renowned Tamil actor Vishal voiced his concerns, questioning the efficacy of the stormwater drain project, directing sharp criticism at Chennai’s Mayor, Ms Priya Rajan, and other city officials.
Expressing dismay over the city’s plight, Vishal took to social media, pointing out the stark contrast between the residents’ suffering and officials’ seemingly unaffected status. “Dear Ms Priya Rajan, hope you are safe, unlike us citizens,” he remarked, questioning the prioritization of the stormwater drain project that seemingly failed to alleviate the city’s flooding.
Dear Ms Priya Rajan (Mayor of Chennai) and to one & all other officers of Greater Chennai Corporation including the Commissioner. Hope you all are safe & sound with your families & water especially drainage water not entering your houses & most importantly hope you have… pic.twitter.com/pqkiaAo6va

Reminiscing about the citizen-led relief efforts during the 2015 floods, Vishal urged all constituency representatives to step forward, instil hope, and provide necessary assistance instead of fostering fear and distress.
In a poignant gesture, actors Suriya and Karthi demonstrated solidarity, pledging an initial donation of Rs 10 lakhs through their fan clubs to aid relief efforts amid the crisis.
As Chennai grapples with the aftermath of the deluge, Vishal’s impassioned plea highlights the urgent need for accountability and swift action to mitigate the suffering of the affected populace.
