Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman‘s concert in Pune was stopped abruptly by the local police due to the court-mandated 10 pm deadline for public events to prevent noise pollution. The musician’s fans took to social media to express their disappointment and frustration over the act, with #DisrespectofARRahman trending on Twitter.
According to reports, the incident happened when Rahman was performing his last song, Chaiyya Chaiyya, and was not aware that it was already beyond 10 PM. As he continued to perform, a police officer went on stage and asked the performers to stop the concert. In a video shared by Rahman on Twitter, he can be heard saying, “I think we went overboard with love and overboard time. That’s it. The timing is over. I like this.”
After the incident, AR Rahman took to Twitter and shared a glimpse of his Pune concert, calling it a “rockstar moment.” He expressed his gratitude to his fans and shared a snippet of the concert, saying, “Here’s a little snippet of our roller coaster ride.”
However, his fans were not pleased with the police’s action and expressed their anger on social media. Many users condemned the act and stated that it was disrespectful to the musician’s talent. One user tweeted, “If talents and stalwarts like AR Rahman are treated this way, then nothing can be said #DisRespectOfARRahman.” Another fan wrote, “Stopping a concert in mid-song is highly insulting. A man who brought global fame to India is being treated in this manner.”
The incident has sparked a debate on social media about the need for a 10 pm deadline for public events and the importance of respecting artists’ talents and contributions to the industry.
