Adah Sharma’s latest movie, ‘The Kerala Story,’ directed by Sudipto Sen, has hit the box office with a bang. The movie has witnessed a massive jump in its earnings on the second day of release, with a collection of Rs 11.22 Crore, as per reports by the entertainment portal Sacnilk. The film’s first-day earnings stood at Rs 8.03 Crore. The movie features Adah Sharma in the role of a Malayali nurse who was recruited by ISIS. The negative publicity and controversy surrounding the film, including allegations of being a propaganda movie promoting hate speech, seems to have worked in its favour.
‘The Kerala Story’ has also broken the record of the first-day collection of its competitor, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,’ earning around Rs 7 Crore in India on the opening day. The movie has surpassed Vivek Agnihotri’s film based on the Kashmiri Pandits massacre, ‘The Kashmir Files,’ which had a collection of Rs 3.55 Crore on its opening day.
Movie critic and business analyst Taran Adarsh shared the success of the film on social media, calling it “SENSATIONAL” and “a REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENT.” He also noted that the film is “not riding on stardom but word of mouth.” ‘The Kerala Story’ has earned a total of Rs 19.25 Crore in just two days, and its growth percentage on Saturday was 39.73%.
The film follows the journey of a Malayali nurse who falls in love with a man who later turns out to be an ISIS recruiter. The movie is produced by Vipul Amrutal Shah and released on May 5, 2023.
