70th National Film Awards: Rishab Shetty, Sooraj Barjatya, and Brahmastra Score Major Wins – Full List of Winners

The winners of the 70th National Film Awards were unveiled at the National Media Center in New Delhi on Friday. The formal ceremony, where the finest Indian films from 2022 will be celebrated, is scheduled to take place at a later date, with the President presiding over the event. Films certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022, were eligible for awards. This year’s jury included Rahul Rawail as Chairperson of the Feature Film Jury, Nila Madhab Panda as Chairperson of the Non-Feature Film Jury, and Gangadhar Mudalair as Chairperson of the Best Writing on Cinema Jury.

The Malayalam drama Aattam received the Best Feature Film award. Rishab Shetty was honored with the Best Actor award, while the Best Actress award was jointly given to Nithya Menon and Manasi Parekh.

The ceremony, delayed by two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, celebrates the top Indian films. The 69th National Film Awards, held in 2023, recognized the best films of 2021, with *Rocketry* winning Best Feature Film, Allu Arjun as Best Actor, and Alia Bhatt and Kriti Sanon sharing the Best Actress award. The 68th Awards honored *Soorarai Pottru* as Best Feature Film and late filmmaker Sachy as Best Director for *Ayyappanum Koshiyum*. Ajay Devgn and Suriya shared the Best Actor award, while Aparna Balamurali was named Best Actress.

Established in 1954 and overseen by the Directorate of Film Festivals, the National Film Awards began with the Marathi film *Shyamchi Aai* winning Best Feature Film. The most awarded film to date is Ashutosh Gowariker’s *Lagaan*, which received eight awards in 2002. The event also recognizes films across regional languages and awards the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for lifetime achievement, with Waheeda Rehman as last year’s recipient.
