MM Keeravani and Chandrabose, the Oscar-winning composer and lyricist duo, received a heartwarming surprise from none other than Richard Carpenter of The Carpenters fame. In a special video shared on Richard’s Instagram page, the legendary musician sang a reimagined version of The Carpenters’ hit song ‘On Top of the World’ to congratulate the team of RRR, particularly Keeravani and Chandrabose for their Oscar win for Best Original Song for their song ‘Naatu Naatu’. The video showed Richard performing the song with his family, with the lyrics changed to “We are on the top of the world for your winning creation and we hope you know how proud of you we are. You are the best there is around and we hope you know it now…”

Expressing his gratitude for the special gesture, Keeravani took to Instagram to thank Richard for his video. He wrote, “Sir @richardcarpenterofficial you brought tears to our eyes with your singing and the message you conveyed. You made our Oscar journey complete.”

Director SS Rajamouli, who helmed the film RRR, also commented on the video, saying that Keeravani was visibly moved to tears upon watching it. “Sir, throughout this Oscar campaign my brother maintained a calm composure. Whether it is before winning or after he didn’t let his emotions out. But, the moment he saw this, he couldn’t control the tears rolling down his cheeks…most memorable moment for our family…Thank you so much,” he wrote.

The video from Richard Carpenter was certainly a sweet and memorable gesture for the RRR team, who were overjoyed to receive such a heartfelt message of congratulations from a music icon.
