SS Rajamouli is currently in the US hosting several screenings for RRR to continue the Oscars 2023 buzz. The film has been immense love in the country but also a lot of appreciation from the West as well. But, the Film Federation of India snubbed RRR for India’s official entry as Best International Feature. But, as per the U.S. distributor, the team will be doing a full-fledged campaign for the action drama and is calling 10,000 Academy members for them to consider voting for the film in all categories.

Following earlier reports, it is now confirmed that RRR has been submitted in 15 categories for consideration. The categories include Best Motion Picture, Best Director (S.S. Rajamouli), Best Actor for Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, Best Supporting Actor (Ajay Devgn), Best Supporting Actress (Alia Bhatt), Best Original Song for ‘Naatu Naatu’, Best Original Screenplay (S.S. Rajamouli, V. Vijayendra Prasad, Sai Madhav Burra). Best Original Score (M.M. Keeravaani), Best Film Editing (Sreekar Prasad), Best Sound, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Visual Effects.

Gujarati movie, Chhello Show (Last Film Show) was selected as the official entry and the announcement was made on Tuesday. The film is directed by Pan Nalin and stars Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Raval and Paresh Mehta in pivotal roles. The film has its world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival in 2021. It has also won the Golden Spike at the 66th Valladolid International Film Festival in 2021.

RRR is a multi-starrer action drama, starring Jr. NTR, Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, and Alia Bhatt, and is among the most acclaimed Indian films of the year. The film brings together the finest performances, action, artwork, and visuals, along with a storyline that kept fans in India and across the world thoroughly entertained.

In 2021, the Tamil film Koozhangal (Pebbles), which was helmed by filmmaker Vinothraj PS, was India’s official entry in the Best International Feature Film category. However, the film wasn’t shortlisted. Indian documentary feature Writing With Fire, directed by Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh, officially bagged a nomination at the 94th Academy Awards 2021. Unfortunately, the documentary didn’t win and lost against Summer Of Soul.

So far the last Indian movie to have made it to the top five in the Best International Feature category were Mother India (1958), Salaam Bombay (1989) and Lagaan (2001).

Meanwhile, SS Rajamouli recently hosted an RRR screening at Beyond Fest. Now, the film returns to the theatres in New York, Los Angeles and Austin this weekend.
