Rishab Shetty starrer Kantara sent for Oscars 2023 consideration

The starry success of Kantara continues to keep it in the headlines. The film arrived on Netflix in Hindi on December 9 and on Prime Video in Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, and Tamil on November 24. While it was super successful in theatres, the buzz around the film is only growing. With RRR being shortlisted in Oscars 2023 categories, Rishab Shetty starrer Kantara is also being sent for consideration, as confirmed by Hombale Films founder Vijay Kiragandur.

Speaking to India Today, Vijay said, “We have submitted our application for Oscars for Kantara and have our fingers crossed as the final nominations are yet to come. Kantara as a story is so rooted that we hope it can also find a voice worldwide.”

He told PTI that a sequel is also on the cards. Vijay said, “Rishab is away and once he is back, we will discuss what we want to do — a sequel or a prequel. We will have something in a couple of months. We definitely have plans for Kantara 2 but there’s no timeline.”

Kantara is about a human and nature conflict where Shiva is a rebel who defends his village and nature. Death leads to war between villagers and evil forces. Will he be able to regain peace in the village? The film will also be available in English, and the dubbed version will stream on Netflix from January 2023 onwards.
