Suriya’s much-anticipated film Retro is set to hit theatres on May 1, 2025. Ahead of its grand release, the makers have dropped a wild new trailer, offering a glimpse of an unhinged Suriya consumed by a mad love. Clocking in at 2 minutes and 42 seconds, the trailer—cut by Premam director Alphonse Puthren—is a visual treat that’s sure to thrill fans.

The newly released trailer of Retro reveals that the film is set during the late 1980s to 1990s, with Suriya embracing a vintage look true to the era. Through fleeting glimpses, viewers are introduced to the protagonist’s family background—and the emotional conflict he faces as he chooses to walk away from it all for the sake of his one true love.

Suriya takes on the role of Paarivel Kannan, while Pooja Hegde plays his wife, who mysteriously vanishes from his life at a crucial turning point. The heart of the story is expected to explore his journey to reunite with her, even as his violent past continues to haunt him.

With Suriya and Pooja leading the cast, Retro also boasts a strong ensemble including Jayaram, Karunakaran, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Sujith Shankar, Swasika, and others in pivotal roles. Actress Shriya Saran will make a special appearance in a dance number. Slated for release on May 1, 2025, the film features music by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna, and editing by Shafique Mohamed Ali.

On the professional front, Suriya was last seen in Kanguva, directed by Siva—an epic fantasy film that also marked the Tamil debut of Bobby Deol and Disha Patani. Despite high expectations, the film received negative reviews and underperformed at the box office.

Up next, Suriya is teaming up with director RJ Balaji for his next project, tentatively titled Suriya 45. The film will feature Trisha Krishnan as the female lead and is billed as an action-packed entertainer
