Producer Naga Vamsi held a press conference in Hyderabad to talk about his latest release, MAD Square, the sequel to the 2023 hit MAD. During the event, he became visibly upset while addressing reviews that criticized the film for not living up to its predecessor or raised doubts about its box office performance.
Vamsi fired back at those who suggested that MAD Square was only performing well because of a lackluster response to Robinhood. He criticized the notion, asking, “Do people not know what they like and don’t like, or do you (reviewers) think you know it all?” He went on to stress the importance of mutual respect in the film industry, sarcastically adding, “Your websites and YouTube channels exist because we provide you with content and interviews. We also give you ads, so try not to destroy cinema since you’re here because of this industry.”
When it was pointed out that actors and technicians give interviews for promotional purposes, Vamsi shot back, “Dammunte mani pareyandi…ban cheyyandi. (I dare you to ban me) Ban me and my films, don’t review them, don’t take my ads. Let’s see how that plays out. I’ll still find a way to promote my films; I’ll deal with that. But how will you survive? You exist because of the industry.

The producer also urged the audience not to take reviews too seriously, stating, “I’ve never pointed this out before, but a review is just one person’s opinion. It’s not like an election result where the majority rules. If someone has a fight at home with their spouse and gives a bad review because of that, it’s no surprise. Don’t trust reviews. Everyone loved Lucky Baskhar, but reviewers didn’t praise it.” He further challenged the media to prove him wrong, adding that MAD Square had grossed ₹69.4 crore worldwide since its release on March 28.
MAD Square features Narne Nithiin, Sangeeth Sobhan, Ram Nitin, and Priyanka Jawalkar in the lead roles, with Kalyan Shankar directing the film. Vamsi’s production company, Sithara Entertainments, is also set to produce Gowtam Tinnanuri’s Kingdom, starring Vijay Deverakonda. Additionally, Vamsi is backing Karthik Subbaraj’s Retro, which stars Suriya and Pooja Hegde, in its Telugu version.
