In 2019, producer A. M. Rathnam approached Pawan Kalyan for a film to be directed by Krish Jagarlamudi. At the time, Kalyan was focused on his political career but agreed to take on the project after a look test in early 2020.
The film, set in the 17th century, revolves around the Mughals and the Qutb Shahis. In March 2021, the title Hari Hara Veera Mallu was officially confirmed. Originally intended to be a standalone film, the makers later decided to split it into two parts. In 2024, they unveiled the first part, Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1—Sword vs Spirit. Oscar-winning composer M. M. Keeravani is providing the music, while Gnana Shekar V. S. is in charge of cinematography. VFX is being supervised by Ben Lock.
In terms of the cast, Bobby Deol replaced Arjun Rampal as Aurangzeb, and Nargis Fakhri stepped into the role of Roshanara. Nidhhi Agerwal plays the female lead, Panchami.
