Devi Sri Prasad, the acclaimed music composer, stirred controversy at the Pushpa 2 pre-release event in Chennai on November 24. During the event, he engaged in a war of words with the film’s producers—Naveen Yerneni, Mohan Cherukuri, and Ravi Shankar—over an ongoing dispute regarding his work on the film’s background score. DSP, as he is popularly known, addressed rumors that he had failed to deliver the score on time, a situation that reportedly led the producers to seek out other music directors.
Speaking candidly, Devi Sri Prasad expressed frustration, claiming that the producers had more complaints about him than appreciation. He added that his relationship with them seemed more transactional than based on mutual respect.
While addressing the crowd, Devi Sri Prasad was speaking in Tamil when a group of fans requested him to switch to Telugu. In response, he acknowledged their gesture but delivered a pointed remark: “My dear brothers, whatever you’re doing is right. If we want something, we need to ask for it and make sure we get it. If you don’t ask, they won’t give—whether it’s the payment from the producers or the credit on screen.” His comments have sparked further debate, with fans and industry insiders closely following the escalating tension between the composer and the Pushpa 2 production team.
Devi Sri Prasad, the celebrated composer behind Pushpa 2, didn’t hold back during his speech at the film’s pre-release event in Chennai, where he directly addressed ongoing tensions with the film’s producers. In a candid exchange, DSP called out producer Ravi Shankar for allegedly blaming him for delays in delivering the song and background score for the highly anticipated sequel.
“Ravi sir, you’ve been blaming me, saying that I didn’t deliver the song or the background score on time,” Devi Sri Prasad said. “I know you love me, but where there’s love, there are complaints too. However, I think you have more complaints about me than love.” His comments were met with a mix of surprise and tension in the crowd.
DSP went on to describe an incident that occurred just moments before he took the stage. “Even now, I came to the venue 20-25 minutes ago. They asked me to wait before making my entry for the cameras. I am shy, you know. I’m only shameless when I’m on stage. Off-stage, I’m the shyest person you can meet,” he continued. “I could hear the song Kissik playing, so I rushed in. But as soon as I arrived, you said, ‘Wrong timing, sir. You’re late.’ What can I do? If I have to address these issues separately, there’s no fun in it. I am always open.”
Devi Sri Prasad’s bold remarks at the public event have fueled speculation that all is not well between him and the Pushpa 2 production team. Tensions appear to be simmering just weeks before the film’s grand release.
In a recent development, it was revealed that while DSP will compose the songs for Pushpa 2, the background score will be handled by other music directors, including SS Thaman, Sam CS, and Ajaneesh Loknath. This shift has further raised questions about the behind-the-scenes dynamics.
