There were recent rumors claiming that the lead role in Chhaava was first offered to Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu before it went to Vicky Kaushal. Speculation suggested that the Guntur Kaaram star turned down the offer for reasons that were never disclosed.
However, during one of his promotional interviews, director Laxman Utekar addressed these rumors, stating that the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was always intended for Vicky Kaushal from the outset.
